Can an island become hard to live on before it disappears? You allocate a limited budget across freshwater, access and housing projects, then see how the plan holds up in three illustrative events. Every scenario is solvable; no single affordable plan wins all three.
The island is anonymous and fictional: not NUS, not a real community, not a site-specific hazard forecast. Token costs and residents’ dialogue are invented teaching rules, not adaptation recommendations.
- The sea comes over A high-water event floods the low road, reaches homes and contaminates the well.
- The rain stays away A long dry spell empties the well and outlasts stored supplies. Roads and homes remain usable.
- The route matters too Strong waves threaten the exposed homes. Floodwater cuts the clinic route. The inland water supply is working.
